Roots: a series on growing. (Next up at Nexus!)

When babies are born, they can’t feed themselves and rely on adults to take care of them. Over time they grow big and strong and learn to feed and care for themselves.

Faith is very similar to this. At first we need others to feed us, but the goal is to learn how to grow and thrive on our own. Like a plant, or spirit needs deep roots that draw life from God.

Don’t be a Baby. Become a self feeder in your walk with God. Learn how this month at Nexus.

Nexus Worship & the Glorious Unseen.

Last night was our first worship night of the year. It was really awesome. It always is to see students praying for each other and joining together to praise the great God of the Universe.

Many students were asking about the songs that were played. Several of them were by a band called the Glorious Unseen. You really should check out their website, or buy their CD in the Bookstore.

CLUMPIFICATION: Mosaic Series part 5

~Genesis 2 18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone...

We NEED relationships to survive...

Think about all of the blessings in life that come from relationships... and would be impossible without them...

The issue goes deeper than simple friendship. The friendships that God gives us are a gift to help us to become more of who we are supposed to be.

God has shaped and designed each of us to demonstrate his image in a unique way, but there is a lot of pressure to conform to something less than this. In the end it is our close friends who help us to stay true to ourselves...

It is our friends who can best help us Learn to Live and Love like Jesus.

We imitate God... by doing the things that Jesus did...

Loving people...
Living the best kind of life...
Sacrificing for others...
Serving others...
Making Earth more live Heaven...
We are Jesus hands and feet in the world...

CLUMPS: Mosaic Series part 4

We were not designed to do life alone.

We all need friends and family to walk through life with. Like watching a movie by yourself, life without friends is much less meaningful and enjoyable without a group of people to laugh and cry with.

The great news about this is that God knows this, and since the very beginning of time has desired for humans to have meaningful relationships. In Genesis 2:18 The LORD God said,

"It is not good for the man to be alone."

That makes it pretty simple.

Often in life our happiness comes down to whether we have one or two people to share our struggles and joy with. For example, Mosaic is a huge place with hundreds of students, but once you have a few friends its just home.

Brandon calls the process (of finding a few friends to share life with) Clumpification. Let me explain.

We have designed a new thing called "CLUMPS" as a way of helping students connect with their friends in a new way. Hebrews 10 makes it really clear that we are all called to not only hold to our own faith, but also to SPUR one another on to love and good deeds. We do this by MEETING together regularly to ENCOURAGE each other.

IF you look at the descriptions to the right you can see that CLUMPS are designed to help students do just this... Spur each other on in their walks with God....

WHO should you CLUMPIFY with?

Brandon's Research on Loneliness...

The LORD God said,

"It is not good for the man to be alone...

We NEED relationships to survive... I recently spent some time thinking about all of the blessings in life that come from relationships... and would be impossible without them...

This led me to do some research on the topic of loneliness... first I am going to present my research... then my findings... let me know what you think.

Mosaic part three: Broken.

Something is wrong with us. We do not live like we should, but it is so much more than that. Our wrong lives are only a reflection of a much deeper problem stirring deep within each of us. We are broken.

We were made to be satisfied by God and his Glory, but we are not. Our desires have been corrupted by sin, so that we long for "more" than God. More pleasure, more control, more excitement, more safety, more power, more happiness, more stuff... MORE. But there is nothing more than God, and our desires leave us broken and hurting at every turn.

We sin because God's image in us was broken by our pursuit of more. In the end we can only find wholeness by together returning to the very source we abandoned... God.

A video about true Beauty vs. Magazine Beauty.

SO often we evaluate ourselves based on what we see in magazines or on TV... those images are more distorted than we realize.

What do you think about it?
